Gas detectors

Italian law No. 191 of 15 December 2023 makes it compulsory for owners of properties intended for tourist accommodation (holiday homes, B&Bs) or for short-term rentals (under 30 days) to install at least one Carbon Monoxide detector and one Methane or LPG detector (in addition to a fire extinguisher) in each accommodation under penalty of a fine of up to 8,000 euros.

In order to comply with the law, houses intended for short-term rentals must be equipped with:

• Portable fire extinguishers: homologated by the Ministry, placed in an accessible and visible position, one every 200 square metres (or one per floor), water type (suitable for fires involving solid materials, flammable liquids, combustion of vegetable/animal oils).
• Gas (methane or LPG) and Carbon Monoxide detectors.
